North Dakota’s first ever fully dedicated soybean crushing plant and refinery

The Green Bison Soybean Processing plant in Spiritwood, ND opened in September 2023. As a joint venture between ADM (75% owner) and Marathon Petroleum (25% owner), it is North Dakota’s first dedicated soybean crushing plant and refinery and helps meet the need for renewable diesel fuel.

The facility has a processing capacity of 150,000 bushels of soybeans per day.

Introducing Green Bison Soybean Processing

The state’s first soybean crushing plant has arrived! North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum says, “This is going to be a game-changer that’s going to provide lasting benefits to our North Dakota farmers.”

When you deliver soybeans here, you’ll find we have two truck receiving pits, each with the capacity to unload 20 trucks per pit, per hour. This means quick and efficient unloading speeds for your drivers.

The Green Bison Soybean Processing plant in Spiritwood provides an important tie between the energy and agriculture industries.

This facility creates 600 million pounds of refined soybean oil per year, fueling the production of renewable diesel. It also generates 1.28 million tons of soybean meal, supporting animal agriculture production in the region.
