Job Summary:

Responsible for learning and participating in the day-to-day operations of the plant and supporting production activities and several administrative functions. The role assists in day to day operations, tracking and understanding department costs, yields, quality, and process performance.

The facility works a rotating 4 shift, 24-7-365 basis.  A shift supervisor may be assigned to any of the shifts, depending on the needs of the facility.  However, each supervisor has a primary shift they will cover.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead plant operations to maintain personnel and process safety
  • Directs the operation of plant facility within established quality, housekeeping, safety and environmental guidelines set by the company.
  • Provide feedback, mentorship, and support to the facility personnel through the use of Performance Excellence (Lean Manufacturing) concepts and tools
  • Interacts directly with hourly team and plant leadership to produce desired operational results and employee development
  • Coordinates daily operations performed by hourly production employees to insure that work is performed safely and efficiently while meeting expected environmental quality, housekeeping and quantity levels established by the company.
  • Guide, respond, or direct contractors on off-shifts in order to fulfill the needs of the facility.
  • Supports Quality and the Food Safety Management System and possibly as member of that team
  • Maintain a high degree of availability to a 24/7 operation.
  • Provide tools, resources, and training to department teams as they incorporate PE methods into their standard work.
  • Display a commitment to lead, participate in, and support ongoing safety engagement.
  • Identify training needs and discuss these needs with Operations Superintendent.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for plant and department leaders using Performance Excellence (Lean Manufacturing) methods for continuous improvement and sustained results.
  • Support plant operations by monitoring production to ensure that finished products are shipped on time and in accordance with customer expectations
  • May perform production duties temporarily in the event of an emergency or employee absence.
  • Analyzes safety incidents by preparing and completing initial reports within 24 hours of incident.  May be asked to participate in Root Cause Analysis for said incidents.
  • Conducts GMP, safety, health, and environmental inspections.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead personnel and work closely with corporate departments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Spring / Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees. Outside temperature may also reach 100 degrees with potential for high humidity. You may be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and wind.
  • Fall / Winter: Temperatures inside and out of the location may be at or below freezing. Outside you may face inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind.
  • Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis, up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis and up to 55 pounds overhead.
  • Lifting or carrying of weights over 50 pounds is rare. Employees are encouraged to request assistance in lifting or carrying objects that weigh more than 50 pounds.
  • Able to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling or squatting frequently. May also require periods of prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Able to operate equipment or diagnose / detect issues of machinery that may be located at different heights. May require work on ladders, scaffolding or other work at heights.
  • Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically powered tools and test equipment, to move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings, and to work at heights.
  • Able to safely and appropriately wear a respirator as conditions require.
